As I went to bed the little world I call home was fairly normal, at least in my surroundings. When I woke up I heard horrific news and as the day went on it got worse. Orlando, our neighbor City has been on my mind all day long. It is too close to home and too close for comfort.
I grew up in Germany as most of you know, attacks likes these weren’t in our country but constantly in the news on the eastern European countries and not really anything unusual for me. I grew up like that, I knew I was safe and my family was, too. I keep people in my daily prayers and since I can’t change the world around me I focused on me and my family. Attacks like these are not new but what is new is that it is moving close to home.
I call Florida my home of choice and we are only 45 minutes from downtown Orlando so waking up to that kind of news in our very own backyard was a little nerve wracking to say the least. I hugged my babies a little tighter, talked to family on the phone all day to comfort them that we are ok and that my family is safe, but all the while I kept thinking of the families who don’t have a loved one to hug and say I love you too tonight.
I did what I do best, walked to the fridge grabbed a few of my comfort food items and created what I call comfort food. For some, mashed taters and gravy may be comfort food, for others a big ol’ bowl of grits, for me it’s chocolate, lots of it! I spend a few hours boundering and creating till I came up with this creation and I just knew I had to share it with all of you and maybe, just maybe give some of you a little comfort tonight, too.
Is this what you call comfort food, too? It sure was an amazing drink and very comforting. Will it ever happen again, I would love to say no, but as long as we keep the faith and don’t let the fear lead our lives I think we won some of the battle. This is the new world we are living in, but we will not let anyone push us down, we are strong!!
Nothing will make this horrific attack undone, but for us left behind we have to keep going and show the world that we are strong!
As I tuck my babies into bed tonight and sip one last drink of my Chocolate Milkshake I have one request, if you can give blood, please do so. Not just because of this horrific event but there is blood needed on a daily basis, make it a monthly commitment, it will not take long but will save so many lives! Together we can be strong and help others. Now hug your family a little tighter tonight and tell everyone you love them.
What do you call Comfort food? Would love to hear all about it, leave me a comment below and let’s chat and let’s hope all your loved ones are home safe tonight.
