Nintendo DS is a big hit with my Tween; I’m sure if you have a Tween you heard about Nintendo DS at one point . DS games have come a long way since the original “Gameboy” and the Tetris games, which, I actually loved and still love to play to this date…. but the show must go on I guess… so now we are in the year 2011 and more games are hitting the market than you would have ever dreamed about. So many choices, which one to pick? By all means, none of those games are cheap and you really don’t want to spend $30 on something that is just on the counter, cause it’s not what you had hoped for. We all been there, done that.. know it all too well.
Which brings me to a game called Cosmos Chaos, Its intergalactical Insanity !!!! This game is rated E for everyone, however my Tween calls it his own… “It’s soo cool mom, do you want me to show it to you?” and he went on and on and on, like a little kid at Christmas…
WARNING!!!! Side effects of COSMOS CHAOS! might include increased cerebral function, an increase in vocabulary, catharsis, and perspiration. If experience any of these side-effects, please tell everyone you know immediately !!!
About Cosmos ….Players are in for an exciting and challenging role playing adventure where they’ll will need to apply the knowledge and skills they acquire on their travels to conquer a universe of out of this world characters and unbelievable places. The features of Cosmos Chaos!™ reflect the deliberate integration of sound gaming principles and educational foundations, resulting in a compelling learning medium and tool for struggling 4th grade readers. The adventure takes place in conceptually rich science, mathematics, and social studies contexts, all aligned to the national 4th grade standards.Word learning throughout the game is focused on research-based vocabulary methods.Fundamental gaming principles underlie the structure of the game to support effective learning.
- Instruction– The dynamic and interactive features of the dialogue and exploratory environment immerse learners in the instructional processes of word learning.
- Practice – Engaging game challenges in the form of mini-games provide practice and instructional redirects or multiple exposures of the content and high-utility words encountered in the dialogue.
- Assessment – Ongoing interactive assessment experiences are dynamically tracked during the game play.
- Tools – Tools for learning are timely and easily accessible through an in-game menu.
What did we think of the game?
As you can see, this game is based on learning through fun. This game ultimately is a vocabulary builder with a touch of Science added; while exploring the game, the player has to read the entire story, in order to come up with the answers and achieve their assignment. By clicking on the words, players will not only earn points, but also get a pronunciation and definition of the word, building their vocabulary. The more words you learn, the more points you will earn and to progress through the game you will have to answer quizzes that use the words you just learned. My son had a ball playing with this game and I think since reading is a big element in this game, age 7 and up would have the most fun and benefit playing; however if you have a early reader or a child that is interested in reading, I’m sure they will have a ball as well.
