CrockPot Thursday – Potato Chowder

October 28, 2010 By Melanie Roberts 7 Comments

This is what you Need:

Potatoes ( as many as you like and your family will eat) ( $2 for a 10lb bag)

2 cups of chicken broth ( $.80 for the carton)

Chicken breast or tenders ( we used 2 large breast but you can use more / less) ($1.99lb)

1 Can Cream of Chicken Soup ($.35 a can)

Cream Cheese ( $.50)

Cheese($.50)

Bacon ( optional, I forgot to use it. but it does taste good with it)

Paprika Seasoning

How to make it :

Wash Potatoes, cut in chunks add to the crock pot, add your Chicken stock, cream of chicken soup, add seasoning ( we use Paprika and a lot of it and it was yummy.. better then without), add chicken…. Now Close the lid, let it cook for 6 hrs. on low.

After 6 hrs and about 30 min bef. you are ready to eat stir in Cream Cheese, I used 1/2 of Cream Cheese pack, you can do more or less, it just gives it that creamy chowder texture kind of feel.

If you like to add Bacon right before you are ready to eat sprinkle cooked bacon on your soup, add cheese and server with French Bread or crackers or anything you like… Dinner is served….

This meal ended up to be $6.14 with Potatoes, cheese and chicken stock left over for another meal. For a Family of 5 that would make $1.22 per person for dinner…Homemade….  ENJOY

* Now remember I buy all my food on sale and with coupons, the price listed is what I paid for at the store, but you can still make this meal fairly cheap most of it is pantry / kitchen stables
