Buddy the Pteranodon and his whole family take another new and exciting trip on the Dinosaur Train, picking up their friends along the way to attend a really big Theropod Club Convention in the “Big City”. During their travels they encounter a singing dino called King (sort of Elvis-like) who has stage fright. At the convention Buddy and his family meet some important dino’s including Mayor Kosmoceratops! Eventually Buddy and Tiny help King lose his nervousness and he sings in front of the whole convention audience. This movie encourages positive thinking and puts your imagination to work.

I was granted the privilege of hosting a special screening party of this movie thanks to PBS. When the children arrived we handed out train tickets and they got to walk up a pretend red carpet (provided by Oriental Trading). The carpet set the tone for our party, it was going to be a blast!
As the children got situated on the sofa and floor, we handed out bags of fresh popcorn and then started the DVD. There were 9 children in all, ages ranging from 3 up to 8 and they all sat through chapters 1-4 very well. We even had one baby, age 11 months and he even enjoyed the colorful dinosaurs. The movie plot was very engaging and they really enjoyed the story. Even for the shortest attention span this movie will work because they have split it up into short chapters that are each around thirteen minutes long. Halfway through we held an “intermission” so the kids could get drinks or get some extra snacks. During this intermission we also pulled names out of a “hat” to give away a few prizes, toy characters from the Dinosaur Train cast which can be purchased on the PBS website. Enter the code BIGCITY to save 10% off any $75 purchase in the PBS online store, offer ends 8/27.
When the kids left they each received a special movie themed gift bag. The party was a big success and I highly recommend hosting your own special movie party for your children and/or their friends. My own children told me that this was the coolest party ever and that “Big City” rocked. I asked them what they enjoyed most in the movie and they both said their favorite was the “Dinosaurs A to Z” song!
