This post is sponsored by Kleenex and Walmart, but my love for their dorm style is all my own!
I bet everyone threatens the day when their oldest (or the youngest??) child is all grown up, finished High School and is heading off to College. On their own! Well, this just happened to me. Back in May my oldest Teen graduated High school and now 10 weeks later we are packing him up and taking him off to College. I’m kind of excited for him, all the opportunities, all the friends he will make and all the experiences he will take in and learn from (or not) but I’m also sad that my baby is growing up and will not need me anymore (Trust me, he knows where the cash cow is…lol).
I took him to Walmart the other day to pick up items for his Dorm room. I can’t just send him off and sit in an empty room; at least that was my thought. We really couldn’t agree on a lot of products so we decided to check the Walmart website first to get an idea of the items he thinks he needs and the items I think he needs. Of course our idea of NEEDS are worlds apart!
His ideas to pack for college looked like that:
-
A big screen TV
-
A Tablet
-
A Laptop,
-
A few pairs of socks
-
A lot of different game systems
-
iPhone
-
Camera
-
PJ’s
-
A Backpack
-
Flip flops
And the list goes on; who needs to cook, you can eat out every day or call in Pizza, were the responses I got from my Teen. I had to check twice if I signed him up for College or if he actually is going to a Video Game conference for an extended Hotel stay.
Does he really think he has time to play PlayStation, the Wii and the Xbox while he is away for college? Does he really think he can walk around in PJ’s all day long? What’s up with the flip flops… at least I could say he will sue them for the shower to make me feel better, maybe? Well, we made a compromise and I told him I would create a list on the blog of the TOP 10 items that I think are essentials to take to the Dorm room and I would ask all my readers to tell me what they would bring or send their Freshman (or even Seniors) off to college with and see who has better ideas, the parents OR maybe the kids? Sounds like fun? Check out MY list below.
-
A Bathroom caddy
-
A blender for his smoothies to stay healthy
-
Towels
-
Pillows to sit on
-
A Computer Chair
-
Book bag to take to his classes
-
A vacuum to keep the room clean
-
A refrigerator to keep his drinks and food cold
-
A microwave to cook breakfast, lunch or dinner
YUP… Kleenex!! Walmart has these Kleenex Expression Oval Facial Tissue chevron designs available for a limited time only. My Teen loved the design and the colors and of course that they were Kleenex. He always needs them to keep his nose clean, especially with his Allergies. They are stylish and will fit perfect in any Dorm room no matter what essentials will be there as long as you have some Kleenex Expression Oval Facial Tissue, college life will be a blast. Be sure to grab them at your local Walmart in the Back to School or near the Back to School section so you can surprise your College Freshman or even Senior with the #KleenexStyle they so deserve.
Help me out… Which list was better… Mom or Teen?
Now I really would love to hear what items you think are essential to take to College, check out Walmart and let me know the items that YOU think will be a HOT item this year and oh would love to hear your thoughts about the Kleenex Expression Oval Facial Tissue, aren’t they cute, isn’t the design super cool and the colors… Totally rocking it aren’t they?
What Essentials do you think are a MUST have?

I think a healthy mix of the two! I wouldn’t take the big screen TV or any other expensive thing though. Even in the best colleges things have a way of coming up missing from the dorm rooms. 🙂

I am not sure-but do they need bedding? You know-like sheets and pillow cases–maybe a blanket. He definitely will need a laptop and a calculator–oh he needs an alarm clock or something that will act as one. You better check with the college about the microwave and the refrig-there may not be enough room even for mini editions or they might not allow them. Actually-after the first semester (or during)-bith your son and you will get a better feel for what he needs–like new jeans, sweatshirts, underwear and socks!

I would not take a big TV, and be careful with the devices they can get stolen. I like the new Kleenex boxes-how colorful. I will have to get some of these for my son. A very good alarm clock is a must. And a small fridge really comes in handy.

it’s so funny what they think they need and what they really do need. i’m a tech junkie though so i would be taking tons of electronics.

I’d be careful about the electronics taken to the dorms. Lots of kids just leave their rooms unlocked all the time and things get stolen. Most importantly, don’t forget shower shoes! My daughter learned that the hard way and had to get lots of warts removed!
