We are in the middle of our Germany tour and finally had some time to visit Bamberg. It’s only a 60 min drive from my hometown Kitzingen, so this was another MUST SEE city. We packed the kids and took my Aunt and Uncle one sunny Sunday morning and off to Bamberg we went.
Bamberg is one of the few cities in Germany that still has the US military present and it was so strange to see American cars everywhere. We kind of enjoyed it, especially since more people spoke English here then in any other city. Germans don’t really speak much English, so in most cities if hubby wanted something I either translated or he used his hand and feet to get what he wanted, which usually always worked, too :0)….
Bamberg celebrated it’s 1000, yes… 1000(!!!) Birthday and we where able to join some of the celebrations. It was soo much fun to see the different culture and to show my family how some traditions work in Germany; the Bamberg Dome was a sight to see and when we walked in, they actually had the choir practice, and little did we know that less then 15 minutes later a mess would be held, which included the Bishop of Bamberg’s presence as well as many pilgrims that walked up as far away as Hungary, dressed in their native costume….soo neat to see and towns all around Germany; the “parade” was as sight to see. All flocked into the Dome to experience the service.
We also explored the Rose garden, what a beautiful sight and the view from the top of the Bamberg City wall’s was just as spectacular as any of the other old cities we explored over the last few weeks. Just breath taking.. pictures don’t even show justice….
Bamberg is just beautiful in it’s own, with the old baroque charm and some new modern twists, you have to come visit if you are ever in the area; spend an afternoon enjoy the beauty of the town, some coffee and cake and watch people walk by, just a great feeling… LOVED IT!
After a busy day sightseeing, we can’t wait to spend the evening BBQ’ing with family… have a blessed day…. and be sure to check back and see what we will explore next….. we only have a few short days left here in my home Country of Germany…..

Oh I see. Now I know that you are German. I was not sure who is – you or your husband. I like the way how you were able to explore so many places during your vacation – travel agency would be jelous.:-)
