First Ever My Allergy Test at Home Kit #Giveaway

April 26, 2013 By Melanie Roberts 10 Comments

As many of you may remember, a few weeks ago my Teen#2 was tested for all kind of allergies and he had quit the reaction to a LOT of products and food items like Chicken, Turkey, eggs and many more. I was shocked to say the least and since been wondering about the other two kids if I should get them tested as well.

My Teen’s allergies came out of the blue almost. Looking back we did have some swollen or blistery lips if he ate like pork, or he got a scratchy throat if he ate onions, but we didn’t associate any of these symptoms with allergies at all. So the news hit us very hard that my teen has major, sever food allergies and we had no clue.

I was planning on getting the other two kids tested as soon as possible, too to make sure we aren’t feeding them anything they shouldn’t eat, but that all came to a screeching hold when the bill for the Allergy testing from Teen# 2 came in. We do have insurance, crappy insurance because our out of pocket, that we owed the Dr., now you better be sitting down, because after the shock with ALL the major allergies my teen had, I got almost a heart attack. My bill for me to pay just to have this allergy test done $1395.00!!! Yup, that is my out of pocket. My insurance did not cover a dime, yet we pay over $700/month for insurance coverage. I was floored and mad to say the least, but now I can not afford to get the other two kids tested and I so desperately want to know if they have similar allergies that are as severe as teen#2.

I strolled Walmart a few weeks ago, stocking up on Benadryl and other allergy medications for Teen#2 when a  small box caught my eye. “My Allergy Test” – Find out what’s causing your allergy symptoms in just 3 easy steps was written on the box.

I read the box and wrote down the companies website “Immunetech.com” so I could read up on it at home.

I quickly learned that this was an in-home testing kit for 10 of the most common allergies in the country, with just 5 drops of blood and everything needed was included in the kit you could find out from a lab if you are allergic to:

  • Egg
  • Milk
  • What
  • Mold (Alternaria)
  • Dust mites
  • Bermuda Grass
  • Timothy Grass
  • Cedar
  • Ragweed
  • Cats

I was impressed, my teen did have allergies to the Trees and Eggs,so this would have been shown on the test. I quickly realized that this may be a great alternative to the very expensive test at the Dr.’s office, the in home kit is only $49.99 and includes everything you need from the medical supplies to get the blood drawn (with a little prick, just like if you would check your Insulin level) to the pre-paid postage envelope as well as Lab Fees. Everything is 100% included in your purchase and the entire thing is 100% anonymous. You are assigned a number and no one will know your name or what your test results are if you don’t want them to know.

The kit includes step by step picture instructions and you can’t go wrong. I’m excited that there is an alternative that is a little cheaper to find out if your little one, or maybe yourself, have allergies. Of course, if you do have Allergies I still would recommend you see an Allergist just to see what your course of treatment would be.

I don’t regret taking my Teen#2 to his testing, I’m extremely relived that I did, but I will let the other kids take this test first and then see what our next course of action may be. I did wish that the company would have a few different tests available, maybe one for only food items like Shellfish, meats, nuts etc as well as a separate test for outdoor allergies. Just an idea, that would help.

We took the test and are patiently waiting our results to see if another child has allergies in our home.

For more information, be sure to visit My Allergy Test and you can even check them out on Facebook or Twitter. You can purchase your very own kit to see if your family has allergies at Walmart or many other local retailers for $49.95 and this Test is covered under the Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HAS).

Wow! I cannot believe the bill was so much! It is wonderful that you can now test the other kids with My Allergy Test for a lot less. Thank you so much for sharing this valuable information!

I understand your frustration on the allergy testing and billing. My entire family is allergic to strange things and I, personally, am allergic to six things on the list above. I think this is definitely a good way to get started.

I think this is such a great alternative for people who can not afford to go to the doctors to have a test done. I didn’t know they existed so will spread the word.

This test is great. I agree that following up with an allergist is a good idea but what a savings if you just want to check if someone might have allergies.

I have been fortunate that none of my kids have displayed any allergy problems, however, it is good to know that there is a simple to use product out there, just in case I do ever need it.

My seven year old is allergic to trees, grass and mouse epithilium so I feel your pain. As soon as the weather gets nice, he starts getting congested and it triggers his asthma. It’s so important to have a plan in place to manage these allergies.
