It’s been a few weeks since my Teen found out what all triggers his allergies and we have been diligently trying to find ways to avoid triggers or to get relive. We somewhat managed the food allergies, we have good days and some not so good days but are slowly getting the hang of how to handle all the severe Chicken, Fish, Pork, Onion and many more allergies that my Teen has. You’ve heard me talk and share our story on the blog and Facebook but we haven’t talked about the outside allergies that my Teen was also diagnosed with.
Outside allergies aren’t things you typically can avoid. Sure, you can hide inside the house and hope that none of the pollen or allergen triggers come inside the house, but let’s face it; you will get triggers even inside the house. My teen was diagnosed with severe Oak Tree and Mixed Tree allergies. Living in Florida the Oak Trees are a BIG trigger for him to a point where his eyes water or even his throat closes up on humid days where the pollen count is very high.
We’ve tried many over the counter allergy medication from brand name to generic and some worked better than others, but the only medication that I’ve noticed that shows up in our cabinet more often that works well for my Teen as well as my husband and myself is Allegra.
I have been very cautious the last few weeks in the things my Teen eats as well as trying to limit his outdoor activities on days with a very high pollen count. I check out MyAllerGenius every day and actually signed up for their Text alert so I’m always on top of any allergy triggers. The Txt alert is super cool and so convenient. Be sure to sign up if you have someone with allergies. A Timesaver, that’s for sure and a lifesaver!
I learned about #MyAllerGenius while looking for information to help my Teen cope on the Allegra website. I was surprised about the amount of information that was available. From indoor to outdoor triggers, ways to improve your allergies, lower your suffering and enjoy your day to day activities to ways to save at CVS with deals and coupons, as well as an easy pollen tracker for your neighborhood. There is much more and every time I check out MyAllerGenius I find something new. If you or anyone in your family is suffering from any kind of allergies, be it from animals or trees, MyAllerGenius is a great resource to have.
I love how easy the website is to navigate, clear links to what I need and what I’m looking for from adult allergies to kids allergies, neat and clean organized categories. I really value the pollen tracker that gives me a 4 day pollen outlook. Not only will they tell me how high the pollen count is, but also what pollen we have to look out for. Perfect for my Teen, that way I know right away if we should skip track practice or be on the cautious side and bring extra medication.
My teen has been taking allergy medication on a daily basis and we tried some of the well known brands a few weeks ago and he just didn’t see any improvement, we decided to switch to Allegra instead and that has changed his entire outlook. Allegra has kept his allergies, at least the outdoor allergies under control 24 hours. My Teen has not once complaint about a scratchy throat, sneezing or tightness in his chest while running. He mentioned to me that he doesn’t feel light headed or dazed like he was with other allergy medication and he just feels great!
He is a firm believer that thanks to Allegra and the 24hr pill once a day he can enjoy his outdoor activities like Soccer and Track without any signs of slowing him down. He’s faithfully taking Allegra every day and as soon as he stops he can quickly see a difference. I’m very pleased that we finally found something to help him with his severe Oak Tree allergies.
He once again can enjoy the great outdoors, smell the flowers and enjoy our citrus trees when they bloom, too. What a difference a little pink pill will make. Wish there was a little pill that I can give him for his food allergies, too.
Coupon Alert ….
As you know, medications even over the counter isn’t cheap and Allergy medication can cost a pretty penny; so when I saw a deal at MyAllerGenius good through May 31, 2013, for the 45ct. Allegra at CVS, usually priced $28.99 but you will get an instant $6.00 off if you use your CVS card and then you can print a $4 coupon (this coupon is good for any 30ct or higher Allegra) from MyAllerGenius to bring the cost down to $18.99 for a 45 day supply, I knew I had to take a trip there to stock up. What a sweet deal; for under $0.50 I can keep my Teen’s allergies under control and he can enjoy the great outdoors.

Thanks Patricia… we are dealing with it day by day, but working well so far.. and YES.. if you haven’t tried Allegra, do. I used every brand before I used Allegra and Allegra, honestly worked better then the rest and that’s all we are using now. Of course, everyone is different, but for us it worked wonders 🙂

I used to hide in the house. I did that until I was about 12 and got allergy medicine. They are so much better now. Thanks for sharing that tool.

This is also my first time hearing about the Allergy Genius tool. This is certainly something I will be sharing with my Aunt, she has horrible allergies. I always feel so bad seeing her with her watery eyes and running nose more often than not.

This tool is really cool. My family has the worst allergies. I feel bad that my toddler inherited our awful allergies. I have been using another brand, but I feel like it isn’t working as well as I want. I’ll have to try Allegra to see if it works well for us. I like that it is over the counter too!

Allegra is a great allergy medicine. I remember when my son’s allergies were first diagnosed at the age of two, he was diagnosed children’s Allegra in liquid form and it did wonders for keeping his triggers at bay.

I have used allegra and like it. My grandson suffers with allergies and has since birth. He is about old enough now to get tested and he may have the same issues as your son.
