My Teen lost his cell phone a few weeks ago and I wasn’t gonna rush out to buy him a new one. My plan was to let him be mad that he lost it and wasn’t careful enough with his phone, to maybe get him a new one for Christmas once he shows a little bit more responsibility. Yet it was a pain for me that he didn’t have a mobile phone in school or at events.

It was just so convenient having the store right there in the mall. You know me, I don’t like contracts or pay outrageous amounts on a plan. I quickly found a sign with a Student Promotion from Sprint My Way and that caught my eye. I called the manager over, Anthony, whom was very nice, had all the knowledge about the promotion that I needed to know.
Anthony, the manager on duty at my local Best Buy Mobile Specialty Store explained to me that Sprint offers a promotion called Sprint My Way to every student in the United States, whether it be Elementary, Middle, High School or even College, as long as you are a student enrolled in a Public or homeschool (YES, homeschool is part of this), you can qualify for the FREE and unlimited plan for a year. The student, or the parent would purchase the phone at a special student price, starting as low as $49.99 with many phones to choose from even iPhone5 at $599 and the Samsung GS4 mini for a special price $349.99 and then forward proof within 14 days.
There is a $ 36.00 activation fee and no additional charge for the next 12 months at all! Your Student can enjoy unlimited Text, Talk and up to 1 GB of Data totally free of charge as part of the Sprint My Way promotion. If you think the 1 GB Data may not be enough, you could, if you like, pay $10.00 a month for totally unlimited data. Which is still an amazing deal!! That’s what I did for my Teen, he is a runner and likes to keep track of his mileage, time and listen to the radio while he runs, he will love the unlimited data.
I really loved the concept and that I wasn’t bound on a contract and no extra payment at all, for the next twelve months. I know this would make such an amazing gift idea this Christmas for your Student and even if you end up buying the cheapest phone for $49.99, that would be an amazing saving compared to a contract phone that runs about $50 – $70 a month. WOW!!
Anthony, my Best Buy Mobile Specialty Store manager spend a good amount of time with me, going over all the details and once I decided on a phone he turned me over to Tyler, a very nice young man, he set me up with an appointment to get in with the next Best Buy Mobile Specialty Store Specialist to get my phone set up. Unfortunately I went on a Friday evening and as Tyler told me Friday evening through Sunday afternoon are the busiest times in their store, I had a 45 minute wait. Tyler also mentioned that if you check out your local Best Buy Mobile Specialty Store the best time is Monday through Thursday or early on Friday with little to no wait, or you could utilize the online appointment maker to cut your wait time down as well.
Once it was my time, it took about 10-15 minutes max. to get my phone activated and me all set up under the Sprint My Way Student Promotion plan and on my way I went. The only thing now, I have 14 days to forward my verification that I indeed have a Student enrolled in school this year to the website or fax number listed on my information sheet that my local Best Buy Mobile Specialty Store gave me and I’m all set.
I’m super excited to hand my Teen this new phone come Christmas Day and knowing that I have no extra monthly fee for an entire 12 months, just put a big ole’ smile on my face. If you add an additional regular phone line to your Student account, you will receive an extra 12 month of free service. In case you or your husband is in need of a new phone be sure to add it to your Student account line prior to the end of the promotion which is January 4, 2014

So you have to have a main line on Sprint to activate this? That’s a great deal if you are already a Sprint customer. I use their pre-paid Virgin Mobile brand, which works out to be a pretty good deal too.

NO Tammy.. you don’t HAVE to have a sprint line or be a costumer.. the Student line can be on it’s own.. we don’t have Sprint either and just have the Student line.. However if you add a regular line to that account your Student will get an addl 12 months of FREE service… Hope that helps

My closest Best Buy is too far away so I tend to just head to Walmart or Target. They do know their electronics though and I would shop there for them when I lived in NY. I love their tech guys!

You can get it for him.. Just get his Student ID or whatever that will proof he is enrolled this semester (they only check once) and you have 14 days after purchase to do it; so You still can get it for Christmas and verify him right after… I bet he would LOVE it… you are such a good aunt
