My Princess came home from Pre-K the other day and the first thing was “Mom, I want a snack”. I told her to see if we have some crackers in the cupboards and she told me “Mom, I need something healthy, some fruit or veggies will do”. I was a bit surprised by her answer, she’s 4. But I had figured out that they just learned about healthy food choices in class and she immediately tried to implement that at home for her very own snack. I loved it!
So, I grabbed my Princess and we went to Walmart to see what healthy #SmartSnack ideas we could find that would keep her happy and healthy.
As we strolled the fruit and vegetable aisles, we couldn’t find anything that my Princess had in mind that would be healthy. I guess she couldn’t figure out that the Apple that she really doesn’t like is a healthy fruit or the carrots that I pack in her lunch are also a healthy veggie.
I walked her to the fruit cup aisle, I knew there had to be something that was healthy and to her taste; we quickly found a few options that she loved. We found some brand new items from Del Monte, they had diced Apples and Pears with Caramel Sauce and diced Pears with Vanilla and Spice; I checked out the label and noticed that each fruit cup has only 60 calories, they are gluten free and do not have high fructose syrup either. I liked the idea and so did my Princess!
I guess you can say these Del Monte Fruit cups are 100% mom approved; I love the convenience of grabbing one anytime we need a snack, tossing them into the lunch box or even keeping a few on hand in the car after our soccer games. Healthy, convenient and kids love them. What more do I want?
Once we got home, hubby and the teen’s lined up to check out the new Del Monte fruit cups; our favorite ended up to be the diced Pears in Vanilla and Spice syrup. They were delicious; but the apples in caramel sauce was a close second. I’m loving the flavor, bold and intense, yet they are light not heavy in your tummy at all. Perfect afternoon snack, anytime anywhere.
We are stocking up on some of the Del Monte fruit cups for the kids, that’s for sure. What #SmartSnack ideas do you have? Anything special your kids love?
Don’t forget to check out Del Monte on the web for more information about their healthy and delicious fruit snack cups; you can also follow on Facebook or Twitter. I created a Google Plus Story about our Shopping trip, with more healthy snack ideas, be sure to check that out.

Ooh, Vanilla & Spice pears sounds delicious! We always keep Del Monte cups in the pantry because the kids are so busy during the week. I’d not noticed this new flavor though and I’d bet we would all love it! Thanks for sharing 🙂
