If you are a mom (or Dad, even a Grandma) you know you will have lots and lots of trash on a daily basis; I can not even think of all the trash my family of 5 accumulates every day. Back in Germany we had a very good recycle system (that was already in place well over 15 years ago.. I’m sure has improved a lot since) and we where thought from a young age to recycle anything and everything. I loved the concept and now in the US kept telling my children about recycling plastic, cans, paper and even dinner leftovers.
Slowly the US is catching on, which I’m soo excited about. I’ve been bagging for years to have a recycle program in our county and finally they are working towards a better way in recycling. Recycle to me comes totally natural, because I grew up with it, with my friends on the other hand it’s a challenge. They had to reduce their trash from one day to the other when our County Changed recycling rules, no fun and I don’t like it yet, because I have two huge yellow buckets at the front door waiting for my recycle each day….. We are constantly running in and out tossing our recycle into the bucket.. most days we give up and just toss it into the regular trash because it’s more convenient.
I can’t change the Yellow buckets outside my door just yet, but there has to be a better way for us to collect paper, plastic and metal without running outside every two seconds to put it in the bucket… With Earth Day just around the corner I made a commitment that I will find some way to make recycling in the kitchen easier.. I started with my all time favorite website, Google.com and went on to Amazon.com before I came across something interesting from Rubbermaid called “Hidden Recycler”
What is the Hidden Recycler you ask?
Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler that gets recyclables off the counter and hidden out of sight. The features of the product include:
-
Easy attachment to a cabinet door with hooks included with the product or screws
-
A convenient handle allows the bag to easily be transported to wherever your recycling is stored for pick-up or transport
-
A 5 gallon bag that holds up to 36 12-ounce cans and can fit a milk jug !!
-
The bag has a leak-proof liner and is machine washable to make it easy to clean after any unexpected spills
-
The bag is soft-sided allowing for flexibility inside any cabinet
-
The bag and all packaging is made from recyclable material, and the product is recyclable
Sounded interesting and I had to check it out for myself, was this the answer to my problem? Would this little bag help my family recycle even more in less time and effort? I checked it out and see what you think….
How did we like it?
The first thing that attracted me to the Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler, yes the convenience, but also the price; it was only $17.59 making this a very affordable option for any household to have and start recycling. Installation was a breeze as well, if you like to attach it to the inside of a cabinet there are two options, one attached the cabinet hangers that are included in the package to the Recycler and just slide it on the edge of your cabinet…done!! However that wasn’t really an option for me, since my Trash cabinet is the lower half of a pantry so I utilized the second options, there are screw holes so you can attach it to the inside of the door…. I actually didn’t want to drill into the cabinet just yet, so I bought some Command Hooks and attached the recycler through the drill holes that way… perfect took 2 seconds to install and we are ready to rock ‘n roll with recycling…
We are in love with this Hidden Recycler from Rubbermaid, we don’t have to run outside every two minutes with every little piece of paper and a lot more stuff is actually ending up in the recycle box now that we have the Hidden Recycler; it fits perfect inside our trash cabinet and waits patiently there until we need it again… The recycler also has a handle making it easy to remove when full so you can take it to your recycle station to empty and super easy to put back in place….. What a wonderful product!!! I can not believe that something so amazing is at a very low price that I love and works great in our family!
Our Earth Day Challenge this year is to recycle 100% in our household and see how much we can help out.. Do you have a challenge this Earth Day that you maybe get your family involved and teach them a lesson? We would love to hear it….
