LunchBox Tuesday: Spaghetti Ice

May 3, 2011 By Melanie Roberts 22 Comments

If you’ve ever been to Germany you have heard of Spaghetti Ice. I love Spaghetti Ice and it’s getting warm enough now for just about everyone to enjoy ice-cream, so I thought I would share one of my all-time favorite German Ice Cream tradition with you guys… If you ever get a chance to visit Germany, make sure to stop and enjoy an “Sphagetti Eis” and think about me…..

This isn’t 100% the same, but as close as I can get it….and a little bit Americanized since it’s hard to find all the ingredients here in the US…

This is what you need:

  • Vanilla Ice-cream made with Cream if possible ( homemade would be best but store brand is ok)
  • Bottle of Strawberry Flavored Ice Cream Syrup or take Fresh Strawberries and mush them into Strawberry sauce
  • Coconut flakes
  • Cool Whip ( I prefer fresh Heavy Cream Whipped up)

This is how you make it:

  • Mix Ice-cream & Cool whip, amount is up to you, if you want one cup of ice cream mix about ½ – 1 cup of Cool Whip, mix well and put back in the freezer for a few min to get cold
  • Once cold again you can put it in a bowl, we like the traditional way using a Spaghetti Press and press the Ice Cream through into your bowl
  • Add Strawberry sauce over your “Spaghettis”
  • Top with Coconut Flakes

Serve immediately. I bet this would be a HIT at your Party or just a fun dessert or snack for the kids…. Guten Appetit…

My mother is from Germany, and I have been to Germany; but I have to admit that I have never heard of this. I’m thinking that maybe this is one of those regional things where you find it in some parts of Germany but not others.

That is crazy, I’ve never heard of Spaghetti Ice before, but anything with only 4 ingredients is something I can make!

I loved, loved, loved your recipe on Spaghetti Ice. I visited Germany about ten years ago abd this was one of my favorite treats I was lucky enough to try. I definitely will be using your recipe for my family at home now. Thanks so much for sharing!

This is so different. The only thing is that I do not have a press. Wonder if I could use a strainer? Anyway, I did visit Germany once but I think I must have been on the tourist plan because I did not come across this. Sounds great.

That is sooooo fun! My ancestry is German on all four major lines and I’ve not heard of this before now. But it’s going to be a family tradition now. Thank you. 🙂

AAH! Back when I lived in Germany, an Italian man with an ice cream truck would drive through my neighborhood and he had this in his truck! Printing! This is fantastic!
