I love to cook, unfortunately time isn’t always on my side and I try to cook ahead for many meals, make freezer meals or like with my son that has major food allergies, I like to cook in big patches for him. My goal is to feed my family a healthy home cooked meal every night without breaking the bank and my back. A trick that I have is my Spaghetti sauce, meat sauce or whatever else you wanna call it.
It’s a base sauce that I can use for many different dishes and I like to take my Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick 7-qt. Sauteuse for when I cook just my Teen’s meals for the month; or for the family meals I love using the Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick 8.5-qt. Dutch Oven with Lid.
You will not believe how simple the base sauce is and you can freeze it in batches and then re-head and add additional veggies, spices or whatever will make it your own for the dish you are using it that night. You will always have home made sauce that tastes like you cooked it for hours in no time. Price wise it’s a lot cheaper and healthier as the store bought cans and jars.
This is what you need for the Homemade base Meat Sauce
- Ground Beef ~ I usually make 5 pounds or 10 pounds
- 2-3 zucchinis, shredded ~ per 5 pound ground beef
- 1/2 pack of shredded carrots ~per 5 pound beef
- 1 large can of crushed, whole or whatever can tomatoes you have around ~per 5 pound ground beef
- Onion, chopped if you like ~ we had to skip that because of Allergies
- seasoning of your choice
- tomato paste to thicken if you like
This is how to make it:
-
Brown your ground beef, add seasoning of your choice and if you like, Onions
-
drain all the grease from your meat
-
add zucchini and carrots, along with your crushed tomatoes; I used a my puree stick to puree the whole tomatoes up; but however your family likes them is fine; I love a few chunks of tomatoes in my sauce.
-
put on low and let simmer for a few hours, lid on and walk away ……
That’s it… very simple, delicious and can be used from Spaghetti to lasagna or even stews, chili and many other dishes. It’s convenient to pull a tub of homemade sauce out of the freezer and we have dinner in no time. It also takes no time at all to make a single serve or a big batch like I make and freeze the rest; same time, same effort; why not cook ahead and you will have lots of extra time with your family.
Another thing that I’m loving and I can’t believe #TheTimeYouSave are the new Contemporary Nonstick pots from Calpahlon; I have been a fan of Calphalon for many years now and the hardest part for me was to wash the pots and pans by hand every night after a busy day at the work and my back hurting. Finally, Calphalon heard us Mom’s and created a brand new line that is still amazing, won’t burn any food on the bottom of the pan and is non stick, yet… it will go in your dishwasher!! I’m in love and it’s the little things that make my day.
We told you about the dishwasher safe Panini Press the other day and I’m telling you it has been a HUGE time saver for me; dishwasher does the work now and the pan comes out clean and sparkly and ready to be used again. I’m just as excited about the 7-qt. Sauteuse and the 8.5-qt. Dutch Oven.
I have to admit, I was a bit shocked at first at HOW big the 7qt and the 8qt were; I guess I expected them to be tall and not wide, but now I’m loving the size and that there isn’t a long handle that will be awkward in the dishwasher; we all have pans that the handle sticks out way too much and makes it hard to fit inside your dishwasher rack; not with the 7qt and the 8qt; they have two handles on the side; I love that as well as that each pot has their very own lid.
Both Pots also fit nicely on top of each other, making it simple to store them in your cupboards. I couldn’t be happier, this family of 5 sure eats a lot and thanks to Calphalon I have pots and pans big enough to feed them all in one sitting and toss the pans into the dishwasher and I’m ready to enjoy my evening.
Of course Calphalon has an entire Contemporary collection that is dishwasher safe, be sure to check them all out; they would make for a great Christmas Gift for just about anyone on your list. You can also learn more about the Calphalon products on their website, purchase any of their products through Amazon.com, Walmart.com or any local retailer across the nation. Of course, don’t forget to friend Calphalon on Facebook or Tweet along on Twitter to keep up with all the new product releases, deals and recipes.

With the time I save I would use these two pans and make my Stir Fry Sweet and Sour Chicken, and in the other pan, I would cook up the rice with veges to make a quick meal. This would save me so much time. I hope I answered the question correct.

I usually make my own pasta sauce because we are very picky with the spices that we use and so most commercial sauces just taste funky to us. It is so simple to make, I am always amazed that not more people make their own sauce.
