Christmas time at home in Germany has always been magical, peaceful and a wonderful experience. I try to keep that tradition going in my own home and teach my children how we celebrate Christmas, the Advent season and anything that goes with it.
In every home in Germany starting the last Sunday in November you will find 4 Candles, mostly arranged on an Advent Wreath, but more and more people get creative and create arrangements or come up with their own idea of how to arrange the 4 candles.
No matter how you put the candles, they all mean the same, the Advent time is here.
Advent is a time to spend time with the family, to stop your busy life and reflect on the holiday season and why we celebrate, sing songs, bake cookies and just enjoy it without the hassle of running to the store to grab the next deal or the hottest toy.
This year I created yet another Advent “wreath” and this has nothing to do with a wreath at all. It’s simple and anyone can create this and use items that are around the house if you want, it’s the thought that counts. We used flower vase, angel hair some small ornaments and 4 candles…. that’s it.
We are ready for the Advent Season to start and with Sunday being 1st. Advent I’m super excited to slow down and just enjoy the family; you should do the same. Each Sunday we light another Candle and that will bring us closer to Christmas Eve; we also light the candles while we eat dinner, or spend time together as a family, to create a calm and peaceful environment.
Would love to hear from you how you celebrate the pre- Christmas Season, do you have any special traditions or ideas? Would love to hear it and maybe include it with our German traditions in the years to come :0)….

how beautiful! simple, yet lovely- my kind of decorations! we have a store bought advent wreath. My great-grandpa (no longer w/ us)-was 100% German and he made delicious ginger snaps and angel food candy….not sure if that’s a common German treat at Christmas or what but those were his 2 specialties and we still have them handwritten and make them every year!
