I just love to decorate the house and fall is my favorite time of the year. I love the orange and browns and the leaves falling (well… in Florida that’s really not happening…lol)… I’ve seen all over Pinterest these cool Apothecary deco ideas and I knew they had to be simple and fairly inexpensive and the best part, you can switch them out with the season, keeping them on your counter, dresser or table all year long; just change it for Christmas, Spring, Easter, Summer and so on… I just love it! I’m totally in love with the look and I set off to Amazon.com to gather my supplies, you could also go to your local craft store. I actually started out at Hobby Lobby and the first time ever, I couldn’t find a thing I could use… was soo disappointing, I love that place.
This is what you need for your Apothecary #DIY Centerpiece
I wanted a set of 3 Apothecary jars, but you certainly can make only one, two or ten. Whatever fits your hearts desire and your space. Here is what you need to make one, just double or triple it for your needs.
-
1 Glass jar or Vase
-
1 Wooden or old candle stick holder
-
3 Clay flower pot dish (mine are 4”)
-
1 Wooden doll heads (they are flat on the bottom)
-
Wooden letters (if you like) and ribbon
-
Candy for filling
-
Toilet paper roll – if you like to safe space and candy
-
Ribbon for the bow
-
Spray paint or paint of your choice
-
Hot Glue or other adhesive of choice
Most of the things you can adjust to your likes and needs, or what you can find in the store and have on hand; Amazon.com is also a great place to look for these items.
This is how to make the Apothecary #DIY Centerpiece
-
Spray-paint or paint your wooden candle sticks and terracotta dishes and the wooden doll heads; let dry. You can use any color that you like and if you rather paint them by hand you can do so as well; though the Spray paint was soooo easy and quick.
-
Put one empty toilet paper roll (I filled mine with paper) inside the glass jar/vase
-
Fill the jar/vase with candy of your choice ~ I had some candy corn and Fall M&M’s hanging around at the house so they are now in the jars…lol
-
Hot glue the candle stick to one Terracotta dish; I used Gorilla Glue at first and even though it will eventually dry super strong; it took forever to dry and eventually I ended up using Hot Glue and it worked like a charm, quick strong bond and no worries about it falling apart while drying.
-
Place second dish on top of Candle holder and glue in place
-
Take the last Terracotta dish and the wooden doll head and hot glue on top of the Terracotta dish … this will be your lid. You can use either side, just check which site fits better on your vase/jar and make that your top.
-
I did not glue the top on, that way I can change out the candy/décor for the season
-
My letters are just hanging by a ribbon over the “knob” and my orange ribbon is tied in the back with a small ribbon;you could also use pipe cleaner or other things to attach them, just whatever you do you probably don’t want them permanent
That’s it… simple as that…. cost can be anywhere from $5- $10 each, depending on sales and if you have items on hand. I’m making a second set in white, I bet it will be great for the upcoming Holiday Season.
So, what do you think? How would you fill them? Would love to hear it and for more ideas and different Apothecary Centerpieces, be sure to check out my Pinterest, many amazing and beautifully decorated Apothecary Jars to be found; if you have your own, would love to see a pic, share it with us on Facebook.

This is such a cute idea! I want to make this for our entry way because it is perfect to have on the bookshelves near our front door when Trick Or Treaters visit. I feel like there is so much competition in our neighborhood to have a nicely decorated home for Halloween and this is a perfect touch.

You are so creative! I thought I was doing good by picking up a few things up at the Dollar Store this morning. I better not let my kids see this otherwise I might have to up my game.

I’m thinking I may do something similar, but use the extra Mason jars I have on hand for a twist. Thanks for the inspiration!

These are just adorable! you did a great job! I would have a hard time leaving the candy alone lol
Melanie Roberts says
Thanks Shelly… hahah I’m not a candy person so it works well for me.. the kids I think got used to it and they don’t even mes with it anymore :-)… BUT look at it as a big candy jar, grab some here and there and by the time the next season rolls around you are ready to fill it again…hahah

I love making my own holiday decorations. I make crafts with my grandsons and this would be a great craft to make with them for Halloween since I already have most of the items I’d need to make them.
