Monday Clean and Organize it: LG Electronics Built-In Tall Tub Dishwasher in Stainless Steel Review

April 25, 2011 By Melanie Roberts 2 Comments

4 years ago when Hubby and I got married our old Dishwasher gave up; there wasn’t really anything wrong with it. We had the Dishwasher for good 6+ years and only paid about $200 new at the time. It worked well all these years and we never ever had to call service on the Dishwasher, that was a Whirlpool; after all these years gunk accumulated and it just got so bad that we had the entire dishwasher full of grease, that’s when we decided it’s time for a new one. The $200 Dishwasher did an amazing job without any problems for 6+ years it was time to retire it and get a new one. I was all for it, since we had upgraded all our appliances about a year prior to stainless steel and the dishwasher was still white. I was excited, we had our money saved and did some research, we knew what we wanted and off to Home Depot we went.

We found this LG Electronics Built-In Tall Tub Dishwasher in Stainless Steel that was almost $700 and had everything I wanted, it was able to wash only the top rack or the bottom, had a garbage disposal right in the dishwasher, since we don’t have one, that was a big plus… We loved LG, we already had a Washer and drier and never had any problems, besides the LG washers at least back then I was told that LG and Bosch are one and the same. Well not one and the same, but LG Appliances use Bosch electronics and motors; Bosch is a German company and if you’ve been around my blog you know that I love my German products, because they work.. nothing against the American’s, but growing up with the German brands I know my products, just as well as someone growing up with an American brand.. hope that makes sense. I like to buy things that are familiar to me and I know they work… Bosch is a well respected company in Germany with High quality products. well.. come to find out Bosch had nothing to do with LG! UGGGHHH

Well, we decided to buy 5 years extended warranty with the Dishwasher, since it wasn’t a cheap model and I was informed that if the gunk appears like on my old Dishwasher I would be able to get it replaced and so on; I’m soo glad that we bought the extended warranty, because what happens the next 4 years now is unbelievable.

I won’t bore you with all the details, but I will say this the first service call was made 90 days after the Dishwasher was in the house and we had about 6-8 service calls every year since; we must have replaced 8-12 new motors, 4-6 new sealing discs, 2 sets of hose, 2 sets of Seals, 2 sets of electronics and that’s just the things I remember; it took the repair company 6 month and 5 service calls to figure out the water, that was coming from the Dishwasher, was actually a broken pipe inside the Dishwasher, and the other times we had water leak all they did was replace the motor till the next time we called a few weeks later…

Am I happy .. nope.. I honestly believe we have a lemon, but can I proof it.. well probly, but no one listens, so this is my way of telling my readers Stay away from any LG Dishwasher. I’ve contacted the company numerous times, the warranty company and even Home depot, come’ on 12 motors in 4 years?? Is this normal?? Nope.. I went through 3 different service companies since I have the Dishwasher and every time they come out they have to make two trips just to fix it, even though I can tell them by now what was wrong and what it will take to fix.. nope they come out look at it without even taking it apart, then telling me they have to order parts and they will be back 4+ weeks later with a new part… This may be the Service Company BUT… I’m not happy. The last time I called for a broken Seal, they send a new technician that lives 1.5 hrs away, he drove to us looked said “yup, new Seal, I’ll order it”…. 8 weeks later I called him, he decided the job wasn’t worth for him to drive 1.5 hrs to fix a little seal… really??

I have 2+ years left on this thing and we got a contract renewal in this week for 3years at $400!!!!!!!!… what do you think I will be doing once my contract is up….?? Hall this piece of junk to the busiest highway in town and let someone smash it up and buy something more reliable than this LG washer….

I know this post is more a frustration post, but I also want to warn anyone who is in the market for a new Dishwasher “Don’t touch the LG” not even if they offer it for Free.. too much hassle.. in the 4 years we have the Dishwasher now at least 2 years ( if you add it all up) have been out of commission….!!!!) For more info about my Dishwasher you can check out Home Depot HERE

Funny part is , ever single repair Technician told me after they left ( without them know that I’m German and how much I liked the Bosch brand) get a Bosch next time, you will love it.. I just smiled and went signed my name on the repair bill…lol

Now we love our LG Washer and Dryer, been using them for 6+ years now and *knock on wood* not a single issue……

I am in the market for a new dishwasher right now. The dishwasher I have now only washes on the China cycle…and I do not wash china. But I am a complete cheapo and will not get a dishwasher until I can find a good deal. 🙂
