One of the “Top 10 Movies of 2010” – Time
Magazine
“One of the year’s best films.”—Scott Bowles, USA Today
FROM THE FILMMAKERS BEHIND THE OSCAR WINNING FILM AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH COMES AN ENGAGING, INSPIRING AND PROVOCATIVE LOOK
AT PUBLIC EDUCATION AND THE EXTRAORDINARY PEOPLE WORKING TO CHANGE IT.
The film depicts the moving and poignant struggles of real-life students and their families and the efforts of educators and reformers who are working to find viable solutions within a dysfunctional system. A stirring, must-see clarion call that has left audiences inspired and motivated to make a difference, WAITING FOR “SUPERMAN” is truly “a powerful, passionate, revolution-inducing documentary” (Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly).
WAITING FOR “SUPERMAN” is a Paramount Pictures release of a Participant Media presentation in association with Walden Media. The film is written by Davis Guggenheim & Billy Kimball.
Wow.. What a powerful movie documentary this ways. I, as almost every one in this country believe that every child has the right to an education, not only an education BUT a GREAT education. Who is to say that my daughter is better than your daughter ?? This is a must see documentary for any family that has children in school.
I strongly urge anyone to watch this documentary, it is an eye opener. Our children are our future, we need to give them the best education that we can, education should be the last thing we look for cutbacks, I’m not one to preach and I’m not one to say what’s right and wrong in this country, but education is a BIG thing, our children will run this country one day and they need to be prepared. Guggenheim otherwise provides a persuasive argument that involved parents will always have an advantage over those who accept whatever comes their way–no matter how ineffective. Us parents need to stand up and take action…. do it for our children!!
This movie is by no means an attack on Teachers, if anything its a testament to the critical importance of good teachers. Guggenheim’s research shows the amazing effect that good teaching can have on a very large population of students, Teachers are great and they should be treated with respect, there are a lot of wonderful teachers, I applaud all of them, they have the toughest job, teaching OUR children.
To be honest, I had a hard time watching this documentary, it took me days to finish, because I was so up sad and saddened by what I heard and seen, as I say this is a must see, I’m also saying beware, it is something if you are a mother that will hit home and will make you think and worry all at the same time.
I don’t want to get into too much depth about this movie, but if I say one thing, BUY this movie, each movie comes with a $ 25 Gift card for Donorschoose.org, this gift card is to be used to help a public school classroom to help teachers get supplies they need or books, and it is part of your purchase. So actually by you purchasing the movie $25 will be donated in your name to a public class in need. I think that is the best thing and we all can lend a supportive hand and order our copy, through Amazon.com, Target or any other store that sells movies. This movie retails for $29.99 but can be found on sale for a lot less !!!!! It is worth it, for our children….

Info about the Donation that will come with the purchase of this DVD or Blu-ray: DonorsChoose.org & Get Schooled Donation Programs
As part of an effort to assist viewers in finding a way to make a difference in public schools across the country, DonorsChoose.org will give consumers a $25 credit for each WAITING FOR “SUPERMAN” Blu-ray or DVD purchase that can be donated to any classroom project listed on DonorsChoose.org. This generous donation exceeds the expected retail price of the DVD. Consumers simply visit the website, select a project and then enter their unique code to make the donation.
DonorsChoose.org was created in 2000 by a teacher who sensed that many people would like to help distressed public schools, but were frustrated by a lack of influence over their donations. DonorsChoose.org allows people to help fund a specific project—all of which are submitted by real teachers and carefully vetted by the DonorsChoose.org team—based on the class location, the subject of the request, the level of poverty in the region or any other criteria they choose. Once a project is fully funded by donations, DonorsChoose.org purchases the requested classroom materials and ships them directly to the school. The recipients then provide photos of the project and thank you letters to the donors.
In addition, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each WAITING FOR “SUPERMAN” DVD and Blu-ray will benefit Get Schooled, an independent non-profit organization founded by Viacom and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Get Schooled uses the power of media and popular culture to motivate and inspire young people, their families and teachers to improve high school graduation rates and college-going rates. It works in close partnership with principals of high-need high schools around the country. To find out more,

Wow this looks like a great documentary but a heart-breaking one at best. I hope that it moves people to stand up for their kids- and their good teachers in an effort to support better education in this country. I am surprised but very glad someone is taking a bold step to say “America is getting DUMBER!” and I totally agree! There is something very obviously wrong w/our nation and we need a movie like this!

Thanks for the review – I agree, the film highlights the need for good teachers and your review made me interested to get the movie. Also like the fact that it has a charity component in it and that public schools will benefit from the sales of the movie.

I loved this movie, but some of the teachers in it are nothing like the teachers I know. The teachers I know are all hardworking. My husband and I are credentialed teachers in CA, but he just got a pink slip and I am currently a SAHM. It’s a hard time for teachers.
