I can’t believe it’s almost time to go back to school shopping. Fortunately for us we have a strict uniform policy and we have rules on what we can buy for the kids to wear to school. Shopping for a Tween, Teen and a Toddler and all have their own style will drive any Crazy Mom Crazy.
The Teen will only wear long pants, even in 100F weather, long pants and t-shirt, why…..??? I have no idea. It must be a Teen thing; he will not wear flip flogs, but will wear his tennis shoes even if the bottom fell out.. yup.. he even went to school like that once, till I found the shoes and tossed them. No idea how he can walk in that…. but he had a fit after I tossed them. Besides the torn shoes, the long pants and the t-shirt, the Teen also HAS to wear a Hoodie, you know the one with a zipper…. yup; he wears it 24/7 and I have to pull it off of him to get it washed. I have no idea WHY he has to be bundled up in the middle of summer in central Florida…. ???
Then I look at the Tween and he hates long pants and wants to wear his swim suite all day long, flips flops and a swim shorts and he is ready to go, no shirt needed. The hair needs to be short, and you better not ask him to put a hat on, that’s just not cool at that age and socks…?? Oh yes, we do have to wear socks, with everything. I mean… EVERYTHING from flip flops to sneakers and even at the beach, socks are a must have accessories for the Tween.
Now if I look at the Toddler, at least somewhat we are in the “Normal” world, I guess. She is the little princes, yet everything has to match She has to have pink shoes, pink pants, pink shirt and if I put a purple hair bow in… well, that’s a no no.. miss prissy here defiantly is a Drama Queen and will NOT leave the house until she is ready hair, lotion and nails done… we are talking about a Toddler… yup, a very spoiled Toddler.
Now, you have an idea of what it’s like, being a mom of a Tween, Teen and Toddler… I’m so thankful that our School has a strict uniform policy and I won’t have to argue with them every morning of what to wear…. LOVE IT!!!
I still can’t believe that I’m the mom of a child that thinks he lives in Siberia, a child that thinks he’s at the beach and a Diva.. all in the same house, on the same day…. What does it look like in your house.. any interesting combinations.. any hope for me to get “normal” kids one day???

Your teen that wears the hoodie, long pants etc…is he on any meds? My daughter was on Concerta for ADD and what you describe his attire being…was exactly what I experienced with her, and that’s not the half of it…the social anxiety she experienced on the drug was mind blowing. She’s off the med now and now dresses like the rest of us in this hot heat!

Susan… nope he’s totally normal, has no anxiety or anything, all his friends are like that, too.. his friend walked in today and had the same long pants and hoodie …lol.. they are nice kids, no troublemaker so I’m not worried and it’s probly a stage he’s going through… I remember when I was a Teen we went on vacation to Hungary and I wore LONG PANTS and a Sweatshirt at the lake in 90 Degree weather…lol…. That is so weird about the medz…would have never thought… interesting ….

LOL – Yeah, even up here in Michigan, my 13 y.o. MUST wear black jeans & tennis shoes. Depending on whether he’s trying to impress a girl that day or not, he’ll either wear a polo shirt or a dirty T-shirt (I need a lock on the dirty laundry basket!). Oh, and he has a hoodie, too. It’s PURPLE and the inside is lined with fuzzy, wool-like black fleece. It stinks. I have to peeeel it off of him at 2am if I want to wash it. Yep, he sleeps in it. Guess I should just be thankful that he takes regular showers and uses deodorant!
(And my toddler has a certain ‘style’, too. He freaks out if I try to give the ‘wrong’ shorts and shirt combos. Like TANTRUM freaking out. Thing is, the ‘right’ combos change on a daily basis. UGH!)
