With Summer in full force, the kids have been out of school for some time and in Florida the rainy season is setting in. Every afternoon it rains, it storms and it isn’t anything fun outside, or if it’s not raining it’s too hot to even walk outside. You can imagine that this time of the year we spend most of our time inside. That’s just how we roll in Florida.
You can also imagine keeping the kids entertained that long inside is a challenge. I combined their love of Netflix and my need to learn bug with Netflix. The kids love it and I love that they learn while watching their favorite shows.
Let’s face it, these days TV is more important to our kids then it has ever been. Many say limit the exposure and only let the kids watch 30 minutes a day, I don’t know about you but I’ve tried that and it was a giant challenge to keep the kids busy all day long. Yes, I may use the TV as a little Mom time. Nothing wrong with that especially if the right program is on. That doesn’t mean my kids watch 24/7, we do have limits but we work on that day by day all depending on what’s going on that day, some we watch more others we may not watch at all. In the end it’s all fun and games and everyone loves it.
These are a few of our shows that we love to watch Octonauts, Project Mc2, The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show or Chef’s Table. These Netflix shows teach our families some Trivial Pursuit-worthy stuff. Pretty cool, right? Trust me, You’ll be scratching your head in awe wondering how your Little Einsteins picked up these quirky tidbits. I know I did, my daughter has learned so much and I wonder “What in the world”. I love when she explores something on a Netflix show and then wants to try it in real life and gets excited if a cooking experiment or a craft experiment turns out well.
I love to incorporate the TV learning with hands on activities so we try to watch a show or episode and I try to incorporate the show for the rest of the day in our meal planning, craft ideas or even games. It’s a lot of fun and really not at all that hard to do.
A few new shows that aired on Netflix during the month of July are worth checking out and may bring back some childhood memories for you are:
