You have seen our Peanut Gallery a few times over the last few months. I love my fur babies just like family and treat them like family. Did you know you can have a sick pet just like a sick child? I had no idea until a few years back, you may remember me talking about Charlie being very sick and he had to have a lot of different medications, blood transfusions and treatments. It wasn’t a fun time for us but that’s when I found out that Walgreens would actually dispense medication to pets. I had no idea until our Vet handed me a prescription and I looked at him with a blank stare, not knowing where to go. I guess I never thought about the Pet medication being the same as us humans. It was actually funny, the same medication my baby Charlie was put on were some of the medications I was taking as well. There is a truth behind it when people say “Your dog acts like you or you act like your dog.” For instance I was taking omeprazole prescription and prednisone prescription and these were the same the doctor prescribed for my Charlie to make him feel better. Who would have known? I still smile every time Charlie, Snoopy or Woodstock get a prescription that is the same as mine. We are one family, that’s for sure!
It is kind of cool that my pets have their very own Walgreens Pharmacy Prescription account and I can refill theirs prescription online just like I can do for my own prescription. It’s so convenient and I will never miss a refill for my pets and I can do it all at the same time under our Family Account.
During these months where I had to worry about Charlie getting better, I learned a lot about the Walgreens Prescription medications program and wanted to share some of the important tips with you, after all our Pets are family and they should be treated like Family.
This is what I’ve learned during our recovery time and I’m glad I’m prepared now and know that I have a choice. Did you know that:

Doctors and veterinarians commonly prescribe the same medications for people and animals so Walgreens pharmacists can actually fill human-analogous pet prescriptions at over 8,000 locations nationwide.

Pets who take regular prescription medication can have an online pharmacy account at Walgreens, making refills easy, convenient and quick.

Cost of pet prescription may be less at Walgreens than at your veterinarians office, even though it’s the same medication. This is because the markups are higher and there’s usually a dispensing fee. If your pet takes medication with regular refills, you could save substantial money at Walgreens

Family prescription management – it’s super easy to add your pet onto your Walgreens online pharmacy account and manage their prescription as though it were your own

Refill Reminders – If your pet has refills remaining on their medication, sign them up for refill reminders and you’ll never have to remember to refill it again. Just hit reply and send to refill the prescription, it’s that easy!
I’m happy to announce that Charlie fully recovered from his illness and we thought life moves on and we all will be happily ever after. Sure, in a perfect world, in my world… Things happen! My other baby Snoopy had his regular Vet visit just the other day and was diagnosed with Cushing Disease, after a little research and freaking out I found out that the disease sounds worse than it is and he can live a happy life with medications.
My first thought was Walgreens Prescriptions. I actually made a quick stop at my local Walgreens Pharmacy to speak to the pharmacist about the disease and if they would be able to fill his medications and help our family once again. He gladly explained to me and ensured me again that Pets are like Family to them as well and they will be able to dispense whatever prescription medication my sick pet may be prescribed just like it was for a human. I was relieved, after hearing that another pet is sick, I can rest assured that Walgreens Pharmacy has me covered and will charge me the lowest price possible for any of the medications Snoopy may need to take.
I know my fur babies will be in good hands with Walgreens and this Mama will not have to worry about a thing; Walgreens has me covered for the Kids and the sick pets and I can take my time and spoil the babies and my pups. We all know sharing some love can go a long way in a sick child and will do the same for a sick pet. We give lots of belly rubs and cuddles and make them feel just like they are part of our family and once they recover we know that Walgreens Pharmacy will have our back in case we have a sick pet again. That peace of mind is worth it to me!

I think that’s great and I wish we had a Walgreens around here. My regular pharmacy doesn’t have anything like that for pets and doesn’t have that website and accounts either which would be awesome. I hope more places take the idea and run with it. Glad Charlie is better.
