Its fall ya ’all. Pumpkins are everywhere and I love Pumpkin season. This is my favorite time of the year, well… besides Christmas of course. We’ve all seen the Pumpkin recipes floating around and some are simple, some take more time, some are delicious and some better not be tried again. Trust me, I’ve had my share of a few recipes the last few weeks that won’t make the next meal plan list, but one thing my kids always look forward to this time of the year is the Pumpkin Roll.
They are all over the internet and Pinterest and we dished them up way before the internet shared all these yummy sweet pumpkin treats with us. It’s a family recipe that has been in my husband’s family forever and the boys love it. Every year I plan to attempt to make this delicious Pumpkin Roll for the kids and every year comes and goes and I have yet to make this roll. Thanks to my wonderful Mother-in-Law we still get plenty of our share, but I just can’t make myself get over that roll part.
I have attempted many rolls and never succeed and this Pumpkin roll would probably be another fail and before my kids would get all upset with me I decided not even to take that challenge, let the Pumpkin Roll win this one. At least that was my thinking till I found this nifty little doughnut pan on clearance at one of our local craft stores and I quickly thought about making this delicious Pumpkin Roll into a doughnut. Should work, right? Why not? There you have it, my creation of the delicious Pumpkin Roll in a doughnut form that took 10 minutes to bake and is just as delicious as its big brother the “roll”.
Let me tell you, this little handy dandy doughnut pan is super cool and worth every penny of the $5 bucks it was on clearance! I’m sure you can find it on Amazon.com and I totally urge you to grab a few pans. With the upcoming holiday season your favorite cakes and pastries would be delicious in a doughnut shape. After all, since there is a hole inside that means it only has half the calories, right?
It took me no time at all to make these oh so yummy Pumpkin Doughnuts with all the same ingredients as the big brother “The Pumpkin Roll” and even without the Cream Cheese Frosting, they were delicious. Of course the frosting made them that much better and gave them that little extra sweetness. My kids loved it and couldn’t believe that they could enjoy their favorite Pumpkin Roll as a doughnut.
Well, sometimes you just have to think outside the box if you think a project is too big to handle like in my case rolling up the Pumpkin Roll. These freeze well, too. Would make a perfect morning breakfast on the go or for that Sunday Brunch. Make a few dozen and freeze them for that time the kids a hollering for a treat.
There you have my version of the Pumpkin Roll, just as delicious in less the time. If you like Pumpkins as much as I do, be sure to check out some of my other Pumpkin recipes and don’t forget to pin this recipe to your favorite Pinterest board. Would love if you follow us on Pinterest, too.
