We all know, Summer is always a lot of fun, the kids are home for weeks and we all can do whatever we want. No schedules, no activities we have to go to just hang out by the pool, in the park or with friends. The one thing that has me always worried when the kids are home for 8+ weeks is the things they have already learned would be lost again. I know my kids try to read during the summer, but sometimes I slack off a bit, too. I mean, it’s summer after all and unless you have a child that LOVES to read, it may be a struggle. That’s when my Netflix comes in handy. I found a few movies that will be fun for the kids, keep them entertained on a rainy day and also keeps them educated and on top of their class. Shh… don’t tell them that is our plan when we sit them in front of the TV. Our little secret.
So if your kids say I’m bored Mom, be sure to pull out your remote and turn on Netflix. A few of my personal favorites this summer are listed below. Would love to hear your thoughts if you have seen some of these movies yet or if you are planning on watching them with your munchkins.
For the Little ones:
1. The Great Mouse Detective
2. Busytown Mysteries
3. LeapFrog: Math Adventures to the Moon
4. Turtle: The Incredible Journey
5. The Magic School Bus
One movie that we have watched a lot this summer and it’s partially because I love Turtles is the Turtle: The Incredible Journey, such a fun movie for the little ones as well as the older kids to watch. I can’t get enough of it and I bet your little one won’t either and who could forget the amazing Series of The Magic School Bus, they are a big help this summer to keep the kids learning while at home. Do you have more favorites for the little ones to share? Would love to hear it.
The older Kids would enjoy:
1. Lewis & Clark: The Journey Out West
2. Walking with Dinosaurs
3. Secret Yellowstone
4. The Blue Planet
5. When We Left Earth: The NASA Missions
We just love the National Geographic Series for the older kids, always a lot to learn and explore. We even turn these on during the School year to get the kids some educational TV instead of just a cartoon or TV show. With the learning shows on Netflix we can get both, the kids happy and entertained and Mom knows it’s a good program that will be fun for the kids. Netflix has lots more educational shows to offer and I wish I could list them all, but I encourage you to head over to their website and check out all the amazing shows and movies they have for little ones as well as Mom & Dad’s. You will be surprised of the selection you will find.
Netflix does change their line-up often so you will never get bored and always have new movies to watch and explore and the best part for me, they also have old movies, you know the ones we grew up with and love to watch, kind of our comfort movies? YUP… Netflix has them all.
Have some fun this summer

A fellow blogger created these simple, yet delicious Brain Booster: Strawberry-Yogurt Swirl Popsicles. You have to try them and create these as a snack for the kids while watching their favorite Netflix show, Mom and Dad should sneak one or two as well, they are that good!
Add some popcorn and a drink and now you have your very own Netflix #StreamTeam movie party in your very own home and I bet the “Mom, I’m bored” will go away very quickly.
They even have Food, Inc., which I highly recommend watching, maybe not with the little ones, but it’s a MUST see and then they have Blackfish, check it out and make your own picture of all the news articles and rumors you have heard.
Happy Summer and be sure to share your favorite Netflix Movie with us, did you know that Netflix plans start at only $7.99 making it a very affordable choice to bring hundreds of movies into your home. No more running out in the rain to return the DVD’s or even forgetting to return them, Netflix is always there with a movie that will keep you entertained for hours.
For more information about Netflix be sure to visit them on the Web and follow on Facebook or Twitter to keep up with the Blast from the Past movies they have to offer. I bet your favorite one is there, too.
