I’m a bread lover through and through. I even would leave a steak or chicken behind for a warm basket of fresh bread. Growing up in Germany where we had one of the most amazing breads ever, I really miss the texture and smells of fresh bread, really nothing can compare. I knew making my own bread couldn’t be that hard and I’ve tried the bread machines before but didn’t really like the outcome. A few months ago I made a simple bread with a little Olive Oil and everyone loved it. So I decided I would experiment a little with different flavors and to my surprise it was super simple; affordable and soo YUMMY.
I found this STAR Olive Oil at Walmart the other day and was quiet drawn to it; STAR has different Extra Virgin Olive Oil’s for different dishes; Arbequina for Vegetables, Hojiblanca for Poultry/Fish and Picual for Beef/ Lamb, how interesting is that? I love to use Olive Oil in my every day cooking. Do you?
Did you know that STAR Olive Oil has amazing health benefits? STAR Olive Oil is 100% Natural, Carbohydrate and sodium free, Cholesterol and gluten free, has no trans fat and no added preservatives, flavoring or coloring. It tastes great and you can taste the freshness.
A little bit of the STAR Extra Virgin Olive Oil will go a long way, I decided to use the STAR Extra Virgin Olive Oil for Vegetables to create a simple Artisan Cheese & Herb bread with a fresh herb dipping sauce.
This is what you need to make your own Artisan Bread
-
3 cups all purpose flour
-
1 3/4 teaspoons salt
-
1/2 teaspoon yeast
-
1 1/2 cups lukewarm water
-
1 cup cheddar cheese or any of your favorite cheese, shredded
-
chopped fresh parsley & basil
-
STAR Extra Virgin Olive Oil for vegetables to cover the dough
-
Dutch Oven or cast iron pot with a lid
This is how to make the Artisan Bread
-
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt and yeast. Add water and mix until a shaggy mixture forms. Drizzle the STAR Olive Oil over the dough to cover it, a small amount will go a long way; cover bowl with plastic wrap and set in a warm spot for 4-5 hours you can even leave it 12 – 18 hours. Overnight works great, too.
-
Once your dough has rested for at least 4 hours mix your fresh herbs and cheese under the dough;
-
Heat oven to 450 degrees. When the oven has reached 450 degrees place a cast iron pot with a lid in the oven and heat the pot for 30 minutes.
-
Meanwhile, pour the dough onto a heavily floured surface and shape into a ball. Add a little more STAR Olive Oil to keep the dough moist, cover with plastic wrap and let rest while the pot is heating.
-
Remove hot pot from the oven and drop in the dough ~ Be careful the pot is very very hot! Cover and return to oven for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes remove the lid and bake an additional 15 minutes. Remove bread from oven and place on a cooling rack to cool.
That’s it, really that simple. The hardest part is letting it rest for 4-5 hours before you bake it. Other than that the bread would be done in 10 min prep time and 45 min bake time. Simple as that. The flavors and the smell were amazing.
I love dipping my fresh bread in Olive Oil and the STAR Extra Virgin Olive Oil was the perfect companion; I chopped up some extra Parsley, Basil and fresh garlic, added it to the Olive Oil and used it to dip my bread. SO Yummy!
My family loved the flavor of the STAR Olive Oil and the texture of the bread was amazing; the fresh bread smell and the cheese made it extra special. I love using Smoked Gouda, it gives it a little like bacon flavor, my Teen is allergic to bacon and this is the closest in taste we can find and he LOVES it. He gobbled up the entire bread and STAR Olive Oil dip in no time. I had to make a second loaf just so I could keep some for the next few days.
In case you like to find out more about STAR Extra Virgin Olive oil and maybe get some more recipes, be sure to visit their Website and friend them on Facebook or tweet along on Twitter, there is also a Pinterest board you don’t want to miss. STAR currently has a Giveaway on their Facebook page, be sure to check that out and good luck.

I’ve never heard of this oil before and didn’t realize there were different oils for different dishes. That would work out to be a little expensive in the long run. That bread by the way looks absolutely delicious!

This bread looks delicious. It reminds me of the fresh bread that used to be delivered hot from the bakery to our home in Spain. There is nothing like the taste of freshly baked bread.
