Fall is upon us and this also means Flu and cold season is just about to knock at your door. Each year there are a few things that we do and try to stay healthy. For the most part our family has been very healthy and only each kid got sick once for a few days..*knock on wood*… So this year I decided to share some of our tips with you and maybe you can also skip Flu and cold season or at least shorten it at your house.
-
We always wash our hands, no matter what we do. Antibacterial Soap and water is a best friend in this crazy mom’s house; I think I should own stock in the Antibacterial Soap companies as much as we use. Wash, wash wash your hands is the most important defense.
-
Also make sure to wash your hands at least 10 seconds, we always sing Old Mc Donald had a Farm or Happy Birthday 2 times and then we know we got our germs off.
-
Dress the part, if it’s 10 degrees out, don’t send your little ones outside without shoes, hats or mittens. Protect the ears and anything else that can catch an infection; so dress the part… if it’s warm don’t over dress….
-
Keep the house germ free as possible; I’ve been known to walk the house a few times a day with wipes, Lysol Spray or any kind of cleaner to keep the door knobs, light switches and anything else that is being touched on a regular basis, clean.
-
Don’t sleep in the “play” cloth; that’s what my mom always told me, is it true? I have no idea, BUT.. if you play outside in dirt and all kind of germs all day, or even spend a day at school with lots of germs, your cloth now have germs, if you spend an entire night in these “germy” and dirty cloth, you are bound to get sick. So wash those germs off each night before bed, put on clean cloth and have a fantastic nights rest, without worrying about germs getting your little one sick.
-
Don’t get around sick little ones; skip the play date if you know your best friends kids just got over a cold, reschedule for another day when you know everyone is well; this will be so much more fun and you know you will be safe.
-
Eat lots of fresh fruit and produce. We eat lots of citrus during the cold and flu season and the kids love it; they even grab a lemon and watch each other make silly faces.. try it, it’s a lot of fun.
I share seven of our most common things we do to stay healthy, now it’s your turn. Share with me what you do to keep your family healthy? maybe I get some new ideas that we can implement this year.. would love to hear it.
