Sunday Brunch – Ham and Cheese Sticks..

September 26, 2010 By Melanie Roberts Leave a Comment

I wanted to make something different for Sunday brunch today and remembered that at home in Germany we make lots of different things with Puff pastry and came up with these ham and Cheese Sticks… Oh they smelled soo yummy in the oven and were sooo good; they can be adjusted with different fillings as well… here is what we made

Ham and Cheese Puff Sticks

You need:

1 pack of your favorite Lunch Ham

1 pack puff pastry ( 2 sheets)

1 Cream Cheese ( any kind will do)

1 Tub of Cottage Cheese ( any kind will do we had Pineapple one)

1 pack of cheese ( any kind will do)

How to:

Preheat oven ( I used convection) on 400Farenheit

1. Take your puff pastry and make sure you have it thawed and it is ready to be rolled out. Roll Puff Pastry out on a sheet.

2.  Mix the Cream Cheese and the Cottage cheese in a Blender ( I used a mixer and it wasn’t as smooth as it should have been) to make what we germans call “Schmand”, mix it all really good and set aside for a few minutes.

3. Cut up your ham in small pieces.

4.  Once you are done rolling the Pastry out spread the “Schmand” ( Cream Cheese mix on one of the Puff Pastry sheets, sprinkle all the ham on and on top add lots of cheese

5. Take the second puff pastry sheet and spread the “Schmand” ( cream cheese mix) on the sheet.

5. Once both sheets are filled take the one with only the “Schmand” ( cream cheese mix) and lay it on top of the other sheet and close the edges ( push down with your fingers to seal it), doesn’t have to be perfect. Then cut in strips with a pizza cutter

6. Once all are cut take each strip and twist them and add to baking sheet, repeat till all the “sticks” are twisted and on your sheet; once all are twisted you can add more cheese on top if you like ( I didn’t will next time)

Put in the oven on 400F ( I used convection ) for 15-20 min till they are nice and golden brown.

These were soo yummy, I had lots of “Schmand” ( Cream Cheese mix)left over and added it to the plate so the kids can eat it with some apple slices. They loved it..

These are good cold, as a snack. At home we always take these to parties or to the soccer field, many possibilities… And the Cream Cheese mix will keep it moist but you don’t taste the Cottage cheese at all ( I know some people don’t like Cottage cheese)…..Enjoy
