By now you have heard of the most talked about movie of 2011; I couldn’t make it to the movies when it opened in August 2011; I patiently sat and waited for the DVD release on December 6th.
All I can say is….. it was worth the wait. It probly would have been a lot more fun to watch it on the big screen and feel like you are part of the movie, but the DVD version was just as powerful.
The actors did an amazing job creating and making you feel like being back in the 60’s and the era of the “help”. it was amazing to watch how people were treated because of a different color and race. The movie has clearly impacted me and immediately I started to think and thank god that this no longer is part of our live today.
The film takes place in Jackson, Mississippi, and stars Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jessica Chastain, Sissy Spacek, Mike Vogel, Mary Steenburgen, and Allison Janney.
Amazing and powerful story, even hubby couldn’t stop watching, he was really reluctant in the beginning to watch a “Chick Flick”….. yet once the movie started, he didn’t even get up to get a drink and was totally into the movie.
The #1 New York Times bestseller by Kathryn Stockett comes to vivid life through the powerful performances of a phenomenal ensemble cast. Led by Emma Stone, Academy Award®-nominated Viola Davis (Best Supporting Actress, Doubt, 2008), Octavia Spencer and Bryce Dallas Howard, The Help is an inspirational, courageous and empowering story about very different, extraordinary women in the 1960s South who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project — one that breaks society’s rules and puts them all at risk. Filled with poignancy, humor and hope — and complete with compelling, never-before-seen bonus features — The Help is a timeless, universal and triumphant story about the ability to create change.
The DVD also includes a few Special Features:

One of my friends bought the movie and a few of us got together and watched it, including my husband. He enjoyed it, too. It is a must-see film. Being from the south, I was afraid it would put southeners in a bad light, but it mostly focused on socialites, which most of us aren’t. LOL I thought it was great that Ron Howard’s daughter was in it and she’s a very good actress. You will not want to miss one word of this movie.

I have a friend that just started reading the novel and she was telling me how great the book is and then when talking to another friend she told me she read the book and also watched the movie and she said they are both great. I want to see the movie but I’m wondering if I should wait until I read the book first. If I don’t read it soon I know I’m going to have to give in and just watch the movie lol
