Tie Dye Easter Eggs with Shaving Cream #DIY

Tie Dye Easter Eggs with Shaving Cream #DIY

This year I decided to have a different kind of Easter Egg coloring at our house. I was tired of the same ol colors, vinegar and dunk, let dry and WOW a colored egg. I wanted my Kindergartner to be part of the action and to be honest, I thought it wouldn’t be as messy! Well, let’s scratch the messy part, because I ended up with Tie Dye all over my fingers, red, blue green, you name it, for days!!! But I think it was well worth it. The eggs turned out AMAZING and only took a few minutes.

This is what you need for your Tie Dye Easter Eggs

  • 1 carton of eggs, I cheated and found some look alike at Walmart, super cheap and I wouldn’t have the use real eggs that in the end no one would eat; I really love the fake look alike eggs.
  • 1 can shaving cream, the cheap stuff is perfectly fine
  • Food Coloring of your choice
  • Toothpick or skewer or some kind of thin long object to swirl the colors
  • deep baking pan

This is how to make the Tie Dye Easter Eggs

Tie Dye Easter Eggs with Shaving Cream

  1. Fill a baking pan with Shaving Cream, I did to the top, you may not need that much, but hey, it’s cheap, why not and the kids love touching it.
  2. Add food coloring drops, all different colors
  3. Use a toothpick, skewer or even pencil and swirl it all around the colors to get the marble look
  4. Take your egg and just lightly roll it in the shaving cream
  5. Let dry on a cooling rack, preferably overnight, or put outside into the sun for 4-6 hours
  6. Once dry, you will see that the shaving cream disappeared, if some bubbles are behind, just wipe them off and voila your Tie Dye Easter Eggs are done!
  7. If you like them a bit shinny, take some oil on a towel or paper napkin and rub the eggs; I used coconut oil, like a very tiny amount lasted for all the eggs, let dry for a few hours – this is not a must at all, just makes them shinny

Wasn’t that simple? This really was a lot of fun and the eggs are so unique and the kids made their own, even the littlest one in your bunch could create these masterpieces.

What is your favorite way to decorate for Easter or color your eggs?

That’s a great way to dye eggs! I admit we’ve only dyed eggs a few times in all the years our daughter was little, because I was always afraid of making too much of a mess and having a stained floor or counter top.

I had no idea you could do that! We’ve only ever done homemade dye with food coloring, or the kits from the store.
