Traveling across America and other places with kids in tow; things to see and do for a fun #FamilyVacation

Family Vacation Ideas

Summer is upon us and we always scramble to find places to take the kids to. I love to find new things to explore and show off, but I hate to travel to a city not knowing what to do ahead of time or if it’s worth going with the entire family. I found a bunch of great Travel ideas from fellow bloggers and thought I’d compile a list of Traveling in the US as well as on the boats to show you some fun ideas and places to take the entire family to go to so you can see if it’s the perfect getaway for your family, too.

Safe Travels .. buckle your seatbelt and come along for the ride…

Hyatt Grand Regency Resort in Orlando, Florida. Is our getaway of choice for the entire family. We are only 45 minutes away from this amazing close to everything, yet far from it all oasis. In the middle of Orlando, a few miles from Disney and Seaworld is this wonderful Resort that will keep your entire family entertained for days.

We usually never leave the resort, other then to grab a bite to eat; you could eat on the premises as well, but we love to go out into town to experience different things. If you are in Florida or planning a trip to Florida, this would be a place that you would want to come back to over and over. They have amazing pools, kids activities, rock climbing, golf, kayaking, bike trails and all is part of your resort fee, no extra charge.. LOVING it.

Fun is included in your price and if you look around on the many travel websites, you will find great deals. We paid $100/night for 2 nights recently for a family of 5 and had a lot of fun. Quick getaways don’t have to break the bank.

Disney Cruise was another fun thing that our Family did a few times. They currently have amazing deals going on so if you ever have a chance, hurry and grab one of the 3, 4 or even 7 day cruises with Mickey and the Gang. You will not be disappointed. We always had a blast from the minute we stepped onto the boat till the time we said good bye. So much to do and to see. The best part, no long lines to see Mickey or Pluto; they are always somewhere and sometimes you get lucky and they come and play put put with you or ask you for a dance in the middle of the Elevator. We had all that happen to us many times and the kids loved it.

Cruising with Mickey and friends is by far an experience and everything from drinks to food is included, so enjoy that steak or Turkey leg and no worries about exercise; they do have a wonderful Gym on the boat, but who wants to work out on Vacation? The kids will love to hang out in the kids club or the Teen club; I hardly ever saw my kids the entire trip; they made so many new friends and had vacation plans of their own with the Kids Itinerary… but of course the kids can hang out with Mom & Dad if they want, too at the many pools that are on board or in the Theater to watch a brand new Disney Movie.

By far this was a great trip and really, if you have a chance, take a Disney Cruise you will have a blast.

Keep on Cruising …..If cruising with Mickey and Friends isn’t your thing, be sure to check out the 5 reason’s why you should give Carnival Cruise Lines as try. My friend Barb from RuralMom.com recently returned from a family vacation and she loved it. Her tips and ideas are amazing and the price for this was budget friendly as well. They also had a wonderful camp for kids of all ages and totally screams for relaxing.

citypass

A pass is the best option – Did you know that some Cities have what they call a CityPASS? Pam from the Just Like June recently found out about these passes on her trip to Houston. She and her family were able to explore a lot of different things with a discount and also learned about things that she would have never found on her own. I think this is such a  great idea for Cities to offer to visitors, besides Houston, Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Boston, Hollywood, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto and Southern California also have a CityPASS option, so be sure to read up on it and check it out if you are heading anywhere near those Cities during your travels.

6flags

How about a Amusement Park? Florida has lots to offer from SeaWorld to all the Disney parks and Universal parks, but how about Six Flags in Atlanta Georgia? I had never heard of it and loved reading about the park when a friend recently posted about her trip. This would be a great getaway for a day or even make a week out of it and explore Atlanta with the City Pass, so many possibilities and they won’t break your bank, that’s for sure.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Beach Vacations are always fun, too from South Florida to New York, there are beaches everywhere; different shape and sizes and all are inviting to spend a day or a week. We love to hang out at Sand Key, Florida. it’s just a short drive from our home but a fun #FamilyVacation that will keep the kids busy in the summer. Which is your favorite beach?

Where does your family love to travel to? Let’s hear it and share some of your travel tips and ideas with us.. can’t wait to hear it.

My son has never been to Orlando, but we are thinking of going there. A lot of kids in his preschool are gone for a few days here or there because they are on family vacations in Orlando. I know that he would love this too.

I haven’t been to Six Flags in years…but I have a lot of great memories of fun trips there in my teens. Sometimes it can be really great to just stay in a nice hotel for a weekend. Relaxing and fun.

Being on a cruise sounds expensive for many, but we really have to strategize to make things happen for enjoyment and at the same time save money on this expenses. Spending time together with the family is one great benefit. I hope we can do that soon. Great tips!

Ruth, we took my daughter the first time when she was 18 month and then we took her about a year later again and she remember and still does to this day and keeps asking about it, she is now 5…I would say it is great for any age, really.. they have LOTS to do for the kids and parents alike.. but to get your moneys worth I would say wait till they are at least 5.. that way they know their favorite characters and stuff.. it is amazing tho…

That Disney Cruise looks awesome! I agree that it’s so important to research an area before vacationing there as a family. I lived in a tourist area for a long time; so many people with kids ended up staying in the “party” area of the city because it was obvious they hadn’t done their homework about the location.

My husband and I love to visit San Francisco, although I think that trip could get very expensive very quickly if we had kids.

Great ideas for family vacations! That looks like a great hotel, and for that price, I’d definitely go! Here in Hawaii, you can’t get much for $100 a night, a hotel like that would be at least $300 a night! For $100 you’d get a crummy old hotel with a tv from the 80’s! I’m 100% serious! lol

You have a beautiful family and it looks like you have lots of fun together. Yes, we love to travel too. This past year we took time off and just visited some favorite tourist spots in our own city. Thanks for sharing about CityPass, it would really help us out. I bet you enjoyed the Hyatt, it’s one of my favorite chains. 🙂
