Monday Organize your Coupons *Avery Review & Giveaway*

January 31, 2011 By Melanie Roberts

I had a lot of readers ask me, how do you keep track of your coupons, or how do you take them to the store? Well.. it depends on my mood, one day I collect them all in a ziploc baggie and carry that tot the store, another day I like to put them in my couponizer and other days I like to carry my big ol’ binder. Just depends on the mood I’m in I guess. So you can see, everyone comes up with the technique on how to store coupons.

I do want to show you the binder technique, because that to me is the most organized and easiest way to keep track of your coupons. I usually have my entire binder in the car and can just run into the store whenever I feel like.

What is a binder organizer you ask?

It’s a simple binder, I bought mine at Walmart when school started. My binder has a zipper all around, so none of my coupons will fall out, especially when my Toddler gets a hold of my Coupon “Bible”. The nice thing about a binder, you can customize it to your likes and needs and whatever will work for you, not one person will have the same binder, but it sure is the Bible of couponing once you have your binder set up…

Here is what you will need to get started:

1 Binder, would be best to be one of the zipper ones, but a regular 2 inch or larger would work just as well
1( or more)  pack Baseball card holders ( if possible try to get different sizes, since coupons come in all shapes and sizes; Walmart sells these fairly cheap, check the front where the registers are by the trading card section)
A few Gallon or larger Ziploc baggies
1 pack Avery Clear Label Index Maker Dividers
1 pack Avery Clear Easy Peel Labels
1 scissor
Notebook paper

How to put it together:
Take the Avery Clear Label Index Maker Dividers and go to www.avery.com/downloads to create your dividers for the binder; that is such an easy step and you can customize your dividers to your needs, if you have a baby add a baby divider, if you have cats or dogs add an animal divider and so on. Each Avery pack has 5 sets of 5 dividers each, which will be plenty for your binder to get organized.
The categoris that I have in my binder are:
  1. Cleaning Coupons
  2. Laundry Coupons
  3. Toiletries products
  4. Medication/ Health Products
  5. Baby coupons
  6. Pantry products
  7. canned goods
  8. Frozen products
  9. Refrigerated products
  10. Snack items
  11. Drinks
  12. Produce
  13. Meat/ Fish products
  14. Bakery items
  15. Items we need ( this tap is for me to keep a list of items we need and their price that I’m willing to pay for)
  16. Items we like ( is a list of products that we always try to keep on hand and I have my coupons handy)

As you can see, I have a lot of categories and everyone is different, some people like to sort their coupons in Alphabetical order, or by expiration date; I prefer the coupons to be sorted by the store isles. Makes it easier on me to find a coupon when I need it.

This was the first time I actually used the Avery Clear Label Index Maker Dividers, I usually just buy a cheapo pack of dividers and use some marker and leave it at that, however they usually tear after a few shopping trips and then I had to buy new ones. The Avery Clear Label Index Maker Dividers are awesome and are now a favorite and a MUST HAVE item for coupon organization!! They are sturdy and will hold up many if not ALL my shopping trips for many many years; I was amazed at how easy it was to customize them and even had room to add a little picture next to the category when I was ready and they looked the way I liked them, I just hit the print button and they came out just perfect… I really really like them…. This makes organizing my coupons even easier… you should check them out at Avery.com and I bet you will like them as much as I did.

Oh you probly are wondering what I do with the ziploc baggies… well take some packaging tape and cover the bottom of the baggie, punch 3 holes into the bottom after you have the tape in place, the tape will re-inforce your holes and won’t let the bag tear. I then put the ziploc baggies inside my binder and use them for anything from loose coupons that I find in the store to storing notepads, pens, scissors anything I need, since they zip up they will hold just about anything!!! So much cheaper than buying the store made products…!! and so simple . Once I have my ziploc pouches done I take a pack of the Avery Clear Easy Peel Return Labels and stick those on my baggies so I can write categories or info on the baggies, sometimes I use the Avery Clear Return Address Labels and type the category like “STORE COUPONS” or “Target Coupons” on the label, so easy and you can do it all either online or with your word document program. I love Avery products, they are so easy to use and can be so customized and used for just about anything… like Organizing your coupon binder….

I know this was a lot of info and if you have any questions, please e-mail or message me on Facebook. Really it’s a simple project, that willsave you a TON of money and time in the long run. You can purchase the Avery Index Maker Clear Label Dividers or the Avery Easy Peel Clear Return Address Labels on Amazon.com or any Office Supply store even Target and Walmart will carry some of the Avery products.

Now as a little special treat Avery has agreed to provide one of my readers a Pack of Clear Easy Peel Return Address Labels and a Pack of Clear Label Index Maker Dividers to get them started on their Coupon Binder project.

I would love to win the Avery Prize pack because I just can’t seem to stay organized. So often I get to a store and it takes me forever to find the coupon I’m looking for because they end up all over my purse. I end up finding the coupon I needed AFTER I have given up and I’m already out of the store. Please Help me Get Organized!!!

I would love to win the Avery Prize pack because I am a mom of 7 who tries to use coupons as much as possible & need to do better at it, I have the binder & baseball card pages, have been trying to decide how to mark the pages, I also organize by product, dairy, meat, frozen, pets, paper, etc. Of course with 7 kids the budget is always tight, they are now ages 4-19, oldest is about to leave with the National Guard in 2 months for deployment so he is at home for now. Besides that one of my 3 sons is named Avery & we love all of the Avery products at my house!
