As a mom of 3, 3 that are far apart in age I may add, things aren’t always easy even though we all have our differences and challenges I wouldn’t want it any other way. My oldest is already in his 20’s, my middle son is 16 and the baby girl is 8. I know a huge age gap and since they are all different in age they have different friends, different interests and different view of life at that age. Good think that I’m a Netflix #StreamTeam mom, oh and while we are at it, I have received compensation for this post (just a littler housekeeping ya know).
The kids love each other, they tease each other and yes sometimes don’t like each other, just like every sibling they have their little moments but no matter what when we bring out the Netflix remote everyone runs and pulls blankets, popcorn and makes plans of what show to watch. The funny thing during the day they all agree to let the little one pick and the older boys patiently sit and watch shows like My Little Pony, Girl Meets World or Lego Friends just to make their little sister happy. How sweet are they you say? Well… They are pretty good boys most of the time and amazing older brothers but the minute she goes to bed they rule the Netflix remote and I barely can get a show in between the big brother riflery.
They usually end up watching shows from their childhood to reminisce on the good ol’ times and a favorite has been Inspector Gadget as well as Open Season, but of course they not only watch their favorite childhood shows another must see that both of the boys agree are It’s Always sunny in Philadelphia or Master of None. I love when my boys agree on the same show. Sometimes I even get to talk them into watching an episode of Fixer Upper with me, my favorite show right now.
See, being a mom of 3 isn’t always bad. We have our ups and downs our fights, tricks and teases but at the end of the day we always love to settle down with a good movie or Netflix show to enjoy the company and create family memories.
What shows are currently running on your Netflix Stream that are a MUST see? Do your kids constantly fight? Check out a few of my tips below on how to have siblings get along and enjoy a little peace and quiet from time to time.
My 4 tips on how to get siblings to get along for a movie date:
-
Have each of the kids pick their favorite snack, create a little snack bar and add all the different snack ideas and let each of the kids pick and choose and even see if they would try their brother or sister’s favorite snack.
-
Let everyone pick a movie or show on Netflix write each name on a piece of paper, place it in a bag or bowl and let the oldest (or the youngest or the one that can answer a math question, spelling question etc.) draw a piece of paper and that will be the movie/show of the night. Giving everyone a fair chance of their show without fighting.
-
Let everyone pick a 30 minute show and let’s watch them back to back everyone gets a chance and everyone’s show will be feature of the night.
-
Let each child pick a Movie night to make it THEIR night from picking dinner ideas to snacks and drinks to make each child feel special.
Aren’t these fun yet simple ideas to have all the kids be part of a movie night but make each feel special in their very own way without any fights or “mom likes you better then me”. Works great for all of my kids no matter what age they were so give it a try and see how nicely your kids will get along, too.
Happy watching and don’t forget to come back next month to see what we are benching on it’s almost summer time so we will be planning our summer fun movie nights I can’t wait to see what’s on the Must see list.
Would love to hear how you keep your little ones in line without all the fuss and fights that go along with being a mom.
