So, we are trying to teach our “old” dogs new tricks and are using some treats to help us along the way.
The other day I bought a few different treats from Milk-Bone® Treats, Pup-Peroni and Milo’s kitchen to see if we can get our pups to behave a little better this year.
My baby, Charlie is the little white Lhasa Apso, he’s going to be 8 this year and he was named after Hurricane Charlie that came through our area in the same year my baby was born; he sure is a whirl wind and keeps us on our toes. He is actually well behaved and needs very little discipline, but he LOVES treats. He would do anything for treats, even love up to mom and do backflips if I would let him. Now, his “little” brother on the other hand…….

…….. is Snoopy, the Beagle. He will be 7 this year and he’s just such a sweet and mellow dog. He loves to take over the bed and spread his toes from end to end and pretend he doesn’t see you trying to lay down:0). Snoopy is such a loving dog, yet he gets a bit excited when he sees treats or has friends come over to play. So, with him we will be working on “patience” this year. He already listens to “sit” when I bring the treat bag out, but unlike Charlie, whom sits and waits patiently till someone actually hands a treat; Snoopy looses attention within a few seconds and gets all jumpy and wants to have a treat NOW. I want him be more “patient”.
So far we are doing well; I managed to have him sit long enough looking at a bag of treats till I took a picture. That is a big accomplishment. He also set quietly till it was his turn and didn’t jump in to grab the treat while Charlie was sitting quietly. That is also a big step. We’ve only been “teaching” Snoopy the new “tricks” for 3 days now, but I can clearly see a change and give him another week or two and he will be sitting for as long as he needs to to get his treat, I’m sure.
Snoopy is enjoying his treats while I’m teaching this old dog new tricks. I’m also very happy about the Healthy treats that I picked from Milk-Bone® Treats, Pup-Peroni and Milo’s Kitchen. All those treats will pack some weight on your dog, so be sure to grab some treats that are healthy, fat free and just overall good for your dog and then you can teach your old dog new tricks as well.
I found a nice selection of healthy dog treats for an affordable price at our local Walmart. Be sure to check out my Google Plus Story to see all the treats and our shopping experience.
Do you have any tips on how to teach an old dog new tricks?
Would love to hear them.

That’s awesome that you’re already seeing progress after only 3 days! I’m sure if you keep it up, you’ll see even more.
